The Heartbake: The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Hey there! Welcome to the first entry of The Heartbake: Baking My Way Through My First Heartbreak!

I recently broke up with my first boyfriend and it has been far from easy. Baking is one of my favorite hobbies and is something I use to take my mind off of things. It's very calming and therapeutic for me, and I have done lots of baking since going through this breakup.

One person I have to thank for helping me the most is my mom. She has been there for me this whole time and has done so much for me. The countless nights we have spent driving and listening to R&B or staying up late watching Friends and sleeping on the couch are what have really helped me get through this tough time. She's the real MVP and she also helped me come up with The Heartbake too!

Each Sunday, I will bake and release a new recipe for you to follow along with as I learn and go through the classic teenage heartbreak! I hope you enjoy all of these recipes and I hope I can bring a smile to your face! Thank you and remember, Stay Tasty!😋💜

xoxo Lyla

Ingredients

  • 2 sticks of unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 cups of flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 3 cups of chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Cream together your butter and sugars in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add in your vanilla extract and eggs and mix completely.
  4. Slowly incorporate the flour, salt, and baking soda and mix together one last time.
  5. Add in all of your chocolate chips and stir by hand to combine.
  6. Scoop and roll the dough into small balls and space them evenly apart on a baking sheet (about three fingers apart).
  7. Bake your cookies for 10-11 minutes. They won’t spread out or brown very much, but be careful not to over-bake them.
  8. Let them cool for about ten minutes before moving them to a wire rack.
  9. Enjoy!
